Most of the BYU interns met up and went to Amateur Night at the famous Apollo Theater located in Harlem. If you are ever in the city on a Wednesday night you have to go. It was probably one of the more cultural things I have done.
Pretty sure we were the only white people there. It was such a neat environment. The host started with a tasteful version of "Let's Get It On". The crowd went nuts. The audience can cheer or boo for each performer and ultimately decides who goes to the final round. I was shocked at some of the talent. It's known as a place "where stars are born and legends are made". The Apollo Theater launched the careers of some huge names: the Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, etc. This was one experience I could not have gotten anywhere else. All of the cougars were loving the entertainment. We're not in Provo anymore...
